Target Language and Skills
Labelling Worksheets – Nine countable (beans, sweet potatoes) and uncountable (gravy, corn) food items. The three worksheet variations cover all the same words, but shuffled (in case your class has a few copycats). Language skills: reading / writing.
Matching Worksheets – Same as above, 9 food words shuffled to make 3 variations of the same worksheet. Picture-to-word matching, with no writing except name and date. Language skills: reading.
Sorting Worksheets: These three variations use slightly different language paired with the same food vocabulary. The first two worksheets are solo activities, although students could pair up after finishing to compare their answers. The last sorting worksheet is meant for groups of 3+.
- Worksheet 1: foods + I like / I don’t like
- Worksheet 2: foods + I like / I don’t like / I haven’t tried
- Worksheet 3: foods + all / some / none of us + like
Surveys: The 5 surveys are small group activities with differences in target language, ranging from beginner to intermediate. Surveys 1, 2, 3 are circle-the-answer type questions, but there is space for students to jot brief notes if their level warrants it. Surveys 4 and 5 ask for star ratings, with suggested responses at the bottom of the page. All activities are designed for 1 student + at least 2 partners, but can be done as pair work.
- Survey 1:Â Do you like.. ? + food
- Survey 2: (3 partners) Do you like… ? + food
- Survey 3: Do you ever eat… for Thanksgiving? + always / sometimes/ never
- Survey 4: How much do you like …? + not very much / a little / a lot
- Survey 5: Have you ever tried…? What did you think? + not very tasty / good / delicious
Find Someone Who… Worksheets: This game engages all your students at once by pairing everyone up for short conversations. The page lists 8 incomplete statements, such as “___ likes pumpkin pie.” Students must get up and talk to each other to find the information they need to complete the task: finish every sentence with the name of a different classmate, no duplicates.
- Game A: ___ likes + food
- Game B: ___ likes / does not like + food
- Game C: ___ always / sometimes / never + has + food
- Game D: ___ had + food (past tense)
- Game E: ___ did not have + food (past tense)
NOTE:Â The worksheet does not include the question forms required for conversation. If the language is new, teachers might need to have these q-form on the whiteboard for reference:
- Games A, B: Do you like…? Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.
- Game C: Do you ever have… for Thanksgiving? How often?
- Games D / E:Â Â What did you have for Thanksgiving dinner? Did you have …?
