This worksheet set contains activities for beginner-level ESL students to practice 18 action verbs presented as 9 pairs of opposites. The vocabulary list here is an exact match to the (free) Actions Flashcards Set B.

Some of the verbs here overlap with Actions Set A, however, this set focuses on “opposites”.

2 Labeling Worksheets

The images of opposite actions are paired up with space for students to write the correct word under each picture. 18 words per page appear in a word list box at the bottom of the page.

• Worksheet 1: words are paired up into opposites in the word list, order is shuffled.
• Worksheet 2: words are not paired up in the word box

2 Label and Match Worksheets

No prompts are given on the page. Students label the image with the correct verb from memory, then draw a line to its opposite in the second column. 18 words per page.

• Worksheet 1: 18 images, no word prompts
• Worksheet 2: same vocabulary as Worksheet #1, but the order is shuffled

2 Matching Worksheets

Students draw a line to match the action word in the first column with its opposite in the second column. 18 verbs per page.

• Worksheet 1: 18 images and words, divided into two columns
• Worksheet 2: same vocabulary as Worksheet #1, but the order is shuffled

2 Matching Opposites and Negatives

Students match the negative phrases in column 1 with the opposite verb in column 2.

• Worksheet 1: 9 negative phrases match to 9 opposite verbs with image prompts
  • ex. Don’t open it! –> Close it.
• Worksheet 2: same as Worksheet #1, but the verbs are reversed
  • ex. Don’t close it! –> Open it.

3 Listing Worksheets

Students write lists of nouns for each pair of opposite actions:
